“Sweeter Maid” Pleads for Mercy from Street Vandals

Sweeter Maid

Among a certain tribe of San Franciscans, ex-meter maid motorcarts provide an ideal form of urban transportation. Sold as surplus by Bay Area cities and municipalities, the motorcarts are cheap, easy to park, and affordable to drive. But the vehicles do come with one big downside: They tend to attract a lot of graffiti from anti-establishment vandals who (not unreasonably) view the motorcarts as instruments of The Man.

The owner of this former meter-maid motorcart in North Bernal hopes to avoid that fate with an artist-to-artist appeal for mercy. Good luck with that.

Owner should just paint the damn thing, get rid of the rotating amber strobe on roof. Removing only the SF star isn’t enough.
Unless of course, they enjoy the attention and the ‘perks’ of the current look from fellow motorists.

Whether the sign worked or I just got lucky, I’ll never know… but after three acts of vandalism, I didn’t get any more trouble!

I was in the process of painting the car (it was a DIY job with a lot of help from friends) when I put the sign up. Within a couple of weeks she was stripped to the aluminum panels, now she’s bright pink and white. I took her to Burning Man, where a whole team of Sweeter Maids in matching pink uniforms handed out tickets and administered sweet, sweet justice… look for us soon on the streets of SF!
