New Candy Shoppe Opens on Cortland

This will come as exciting news to the children of Bernal Heights and underemployed dentists throughout San Francisco: A new candy shop has opened at 521 Cortland, right across from the library.

Called the Rock Candy Snack Shop, the store is co-owned by a very friendly woman named Heather Young who looks exactly like Mother Mary See — if Mother Mary See was a lot less grandmotherly, and a lot more of a younger, tattooed, 21st century urban mom who could potentially moonlight as the lead singer for a post-punk rockabilly band. (I mean that in a good way.)

Heather said the Rock Candy Snack Shop will emphasize artisanal and organic candies made in the good ol’ USA.

I brought the Cub Reporter for some taste-testing, and she chose a lovely, three-dollar bag of fruit-flavored jelly beans.

The kid loved ’em, and I did too — they were delicious, and tasted exceptionally fresh (if there is such a thing as a fresh jelly bean).

So welcome to the neighborhood, Rock Candy Snack Shop… and rock on.

  1. oh jeez..looks like Bernal is slowly turning into the baby centric, cute centric, gag-me-centric 24th st in Noe valley.

  2. oh cool! Heather has been a Bernal resident for quite a while. She used to work at Emmy’s Spaghetti Shack. Really stoked to see her branching out on her own!

  3. Everyone loves candy! What a great addition to SF! Congrats Heather! Do you carry Rocky Road? If so, I will be there regularly! All you nay sayers should find something better to do!

  4. Just wait til Bernal gets expensive, really expensive to buy a house..just like Noe is now.

then all of you candy lovers will not like that cute little store. mark my words. cute candy stores can only foretell high real estate in the very near future.

    hugs.

    • Well, thank goodness. Nice to see a little candy store has all that power to help build our equity and keep our neighbors from going underwater. Go Heather, go!

    • Bernal is already one of the priciest, overvalued places to live in the City. No news there. That was the case long before there were fun business startups to support.

  5. I had the organic, vegan Gummi bears, which were delicious despite being organic and vegan. I ate the whole bag in one sitting. My parents loved the syrah-infused brownie. And they even have funky old glassware to pack your gifts in! I say it’s a nice addition.

  6. Rock candy snack shop is my new vice especially round the full moon when they fill my chocolate cravings. The 16 truffle box will solve any of life’s problems. You rock heather way to make the neighborhood that much better

  7. She has chocolate advent calendars!! Counting down to Christmas has never been more delicious! Who wants to find a dumb picture of a toy drum behind Day 5? I’ll take the chocolate toy drum!
