Wow. What a great small-town-in-the-big-city scene the 2011 Fiesta on the Hill turned out to be. Cortland was jammed with a happy mix of locals, visitors, adults, kids, humans, and barnyard animals.

There were mistrels on hand to serenade the wee ones:

And balloons aplenty:

And some freaky-weird dude who looked like a Buddha at Burning Man after an intense psychedelic experience:

And friendly witches to paint pictures on children:

Also, PONIES!

Congrats to all the organizers who helped make Fiesta on the Hill 2011 so much fun. See you next year!

UPDATE:

New neighbor Adrian Mendoza took some great photos during the Festival as well:

  1. I love Fiesta on the Hill! Such a beautiful, fun time of year! My only complaint is why do they have that sad looking petting zoo with the scared animals cowering in a corner while kids poke at them? They all looked terrified. And the pony rides? Another terribly sad sight. Seems to go against everything Bernal stands for. Any way to voice our dislike of the inappropriate use of animals at our festival?

  2. Great pictures you two. I had fun doing my annual wander around running into people I know from the neighborhood. I thought the food vendor offerings were a little sadder and less creative than usual. I would have thought that the food cart movement would make the opposite true. (It was also the same day as the Sunset Festival, maybe some other vendors on the circuit were there.)

I too was disappointed in the pony rides this year. In previous years, they walked the kids on ponies down the block of Moultrie just south of Cortland and back up. Way better than the tied up to a pony-go-round. Also– one of the ponies was a donkey!

    • I meant to say that I did have a fun time, and totally loved the Shotgun Wedding Quintet, a band I had not heard of before. Am an instant fan. Never have I discovered a band at the Fiesta whose music I would purchase (which I have since done) or who I would ever go out of my way to see. (I can’t wait to see them again.)
